Description:

Veterinary nurses work alongside veterinary surgeons providing nursing care to a variety of animals and making a real difference to the lives of animals and pets. Currently, there is a nationwide shortage of qualified veterinary nurses so job prospects upon graduation are excellent. This course will give you the skills and knowledge to be successful in this field and apply for entry on the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Register of Veterinary Nurses.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.

Undergraduate applicants from Canada will need to have completed one of the following:

    • International Baccalaureate Diploma
    • High School Diploma or Secondary School Diploma or a Diplôme d'Etudes Collègiales (DEC) with at least 5 grade 12 courses with 60% or higher depending on the subject you are applying for
    • High School Diploma and scores of 3+ on at least two Advanced Placement exams
    • Satisfactorily completion of one year of college/university level study with minimum GPA of 3.0
    • Professional Diploma from a technical school (2 years post-secondary in a specialised field of study)

Students who have completed the two-year Associate degree may be eligible for advanced standing onto the second year of an undergraduate degree course.

    Additional Admission Requirements:

The demand for places on this programme is extremely high and as a consequence selection is competitive.

Offers of places are given through a process of initial application and academic assessment, group interview and discussion and written assessment. Applicants with a keen interest in enjoying a career in veterinary nursing and who can demonstrate a caring and professional approach to their work are likely to be of most interest to admission tutors.

      • Online English and Maths Assessment using Basic & Key Skills Builder (BKSB). The element of this application that we are utilising is used widely to evaluate, through on-line assessments, the skill levels at which individuals are working with regard to their literacy and numeracy skills. These results will contribute to our decision-making and assist in determining, along with other aspects of recruitment process, whether we wish to make an offer to the applicant so it is important that applicants complete these to the best of their ability
      • As part of the interview process, applicants will be participating in a group discussion as well as a practical task. The practical task is designed to review skills such as dexterity, problem-solving, team-working and personal interaction
      • Overseas applicants would first be invited to attend an interview. If an applicant is unable to make the journey to the campus they can request an interview via Skype. The Skype arrangements will be made by direct communication with CAW, once we are aware of the applicant’s wishes. Please note, the programme is taught at the Huntingdon campus
      • Completion of the online health screening assessment.

Prior to applying for this programme, please ensure you read the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Disability Guidance on the Recruitment of Veterinary Nurse Students.
