Description:

Medical Laboratory Assistants’ primary role is clinical support. Medical Laboratory Assistants may work in hospital or clinic settings, in departments such as phlebotomy and specimen receiving, or work directly in specialized laboratories.

Oulton College works hand-in-hand with leading hospitals and regional laboratories to ensure our graduates are highly skilled and prepared to enter the work force directly from their practicum. Our Medical Laboratory Assistant Program is accredited with the Canadian Medical Association.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
  •   Biology  or   Chemistry 
Applicants are required to have Grade 12 Diploma, Adult Diploma or GED, as well as Grade 11 or 12 Biology OR Chemistry with a minimum average of 60%. Grade 11 or 12 Math Foundations Level is considered an asset.
Test Scores:
  • International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 80] or Canadian Academic English Language Assessment [min. 60] or Michigan English Language Assessment Battery [min. 80]
Application Notes : Unless they have completed a minimum of three years of study at a school where English is the language of instruction, international students whose first language is not English must submit proof of English language proficiency: CAEL – minimum score of 60, IELTS – 6.0 with no individual score lower than 5.5, TOEFL (IBT) - 80, with no individual score lower than 18, MELAB - minimum score of 80, Duolinguo - minimum score of 55, Cambridge English - minimum score of 169, or Pearson Test of English - minimum score of 50.
