Description:

This program is a comprehensive training program for students looking for in-depth exposure to Translational Medicine in keeping with the current trends in modern medical research and education. All students registered in this program are required to attend 2 retreats to obtain their MSc in Medicine with Specialization in Translational Medicine. Students wanting to pursue this program will have to meet the Department's normal requirements for admission as well as those of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. Each student is supervised by a staff member who has shown commitment to the project and will provide all personal and research funding. Students are encouraged to apply for funding that is either internal or external to the University of Alberta. For MD research trainees, personal funding is available through external funding agencies, the Postgraduate Medical Education Office or through clinical departments or divisions. The time required to complete the coursework is two years. The time required to complete the program will vary according to the previous training of the applicant and the nature of the research undertaken.

For Master's programs, the Department's minimum admission requirements are an undergraduate degree with an admission GPA of at least 3.0 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution. The admission GPA will be calculated on the last ★60 of graded coursework completed, or on the equivalent of the last two years of full-time graded coursework.
