Are you ready for all your hard work to pay off? Now that you’ve graduated, it’s time to launch your career! While it’s an exciting time, many graduates feel a little overwhelmed by the idea of searching for that first job. We’ve got some helpful tips that can set your job search on the right path, and keep you motivated along the way.

Here are our 10 tips to help you find your first job after graduation:

1. Build a network

This is one of the most important steps to take as you begin your job search, and can be accomplished in part by attending industry events. Introduce yourself to others in the room, and start to get your name out there. Soon enough, you’ll begin forming relationships with individuals who share your career interests… individuals who may soon be hiring! Also consider joining an industry organization – there are many that offer support, free training and advice for their members, and opportunities to connect with each other. And don’t forget to stay in touch with professors or advisors you worked closely with at school. A letter of recommendation can go a long way!

2. Customize your resume

While it may be easier to send out hundreds of the same resume to various companies, it’s critical to customize your CV for each specific position. This is your opportunity to emphasize the areas that employers are looking for, which can help you stand out during the review process. It’s also a great idea to add a distinctive element or experience. By highlighting a unique skill, pass time, or volunteer experience (even if it has nothing to do with the position you’re applying for), you’ll become a memorable candidate.
