The Top 5 Reasons Why Students Choose CapU

We asked our student ambassador, Maleah Virk, 5 reasons why she thinks students choose CapU. Maleah is a third-year student in our unique Bachelor of Legal Studies (Paralegal) Degree program. As an engaged and informative member of Capilano University, here is what she had to say when asked about the various reasons why prospective students should consider Capilano University:

1. The small class sizes

At Capilano University, there is a limit of 35 students per class. This allows for an intimate learning experience and a better opportunity to network with your peers. In addition, the classroom setting is similar to that of a high school classroom, which supports an easy transition into university.

Comparatively to larger institutions, students are able to easily communicate with their instructors as they are easily accessible, both in and outside the classroom. In other words, students can see their instructor (and vice versa) rather than being lost in a crowd of 300 other students in a lecture hall.

2. No TAs

The instructors at Capilano University are always available to help and support their students. Since the class sizes are smaller, the need for a teaching assistant is eliminated as there is a manageable number of students per class for each instructor. Therefore, students communicate directly with their instructors and are able to build connections to broaden their network. Our instructors are industry professionals and have hands-on experience in the field, which enables students to receive the best learning experience possible.

3. Reputable programs

Capilano University offers an excellent, diverse range of programs and courses throughout our 3 academic semesters. More specifically, CapU does an excellent job of providing niche programs specializing in various areas. Our most demanding programs include our Bachelor of Motion Picture Arts Degree, Bachelor of Legal Studies Degree, Bachelor of Kinesiology, Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication, and our Bachelor of Early Childhood Care & Education Degree.

Although we offer 16 amazing opportunities for four-year bachelor’s degrees, Capilano University has an outstanding range of credential offerings throughout our 100+ programs. These include our certificates, diplomas, associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and post-baccalaureate programs.

4. Competitive tuition rates and financial aid

Attending post-secondary can pose a challenging financial decision. However, Capilano University can provide some relief because we offer competitive tuition rates in comparison to larger institutions. CapU provides fundamental education at a fair price. In addition, we have over 20 Entrance Awards for future students to further fund their education.

Our Capilano Excellence Scholarship (CAPX) is valued at $56,000 and is awarded to 10 applicants who have demonstrated excellence in academics and leadership endeavours. Aside from our “all in” CAPX award, there are various different scholarships, bursaries, and loans that CapU students have access to apply for each term of the school year. In fact, we gave away over $1.66 million in the 2021-2022 Academic Year.

5. Beautiful campuses

All of our campuses are located on the traditional and ancestral territory of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, Musqueam, Lil’Wat and Sechelt (shíshálh) Nations. Our Main Campus is located in the luscious trees and mountains of North Vancouver, in the wonderful province of British Columbia, Canada. Also in North Vancouver, we have our Lonsdale Campus, which is an extension of the Main Campus. CapU Lonsdale is located in the historic Shipyards building on the waterfront in lower Lonsdale.

Additionally, we have a regional campus in the village of Sechelt, midway up the Sunshine Coast. Interestingly, it is the only post-secondary institution located on the lower Sunshine Coast. Each of these CapU campuses reflect the breath-taking scenery that British Columbia has to offer, while incorporating the important heritage of our Indigenous peoples.

Needless to say, Capilano University provides students with a meaningful and unique learning experience that is guaranteed to successfully support graduates. Join us for Explore CapU Open House (RSVP here!) to learn more about our programs and how to become a student at our esteemed institution.
