Residence buildings 101

York's Keele residences feature several undergraduate buildings which offer various living styles, including traditional and suite styles.

  • Traditional styles include standard single and double bedrooms. Washrooms and lounges are shared, and residents are required to purchase a meal plan.
  • Suite-style residences have ensuite kitchens and bathrooms as well as some residences that have gender-specific and year-specific floors. Meal plans are optional for suite-style residents.

Glendon residences have an even mix of first-year and upper-year students. Both Hilliard and Wood buildings offer semi-private suites with self-contained community bathrooms. They are both all-gender with female-only wings, and meal plans are required.

If you are a mature student, York Apartments may be a great fit for you. These are independent apartments which allow you to stay with your family, and come in both furnished and unfurnished styles.

Benefits of living on campus

Here are five big reasons you might want to live close to school:

Convenience

Living in residence saves you your commute, as you're only a walk away from your classes and other on-campus activities.

Community

You gain the opportunity to establish a strong sense of community with other students while getting to know your neighbours through residence events, trips and house meetings.

Colleges

As York University has a college system, undergraduate residence buildings are linked to the college which your program corresponds to. This guarantees you an incredible time during Orientation and immediate connections to the inner University life.

Engagement

Student engagement is key during university life, as it opens opportunities for you beyond the classroom and your overall university experience.

Transition

York University supports first-year residents' transitions into university with their First Year Experience Program, which offers the opportunity for first-year residents to develop lasting connections with the YU community, Dons and residence.

Note that the deadline for applying to residence for the 2022-2023 academic year is June 1, 2022. This guarantees undergraduate first year students a space on both the Keele and Glendon residence buildings.
