Paying for your education is a lot easier with a good summer job. Here's how to find the right role for you this summer.

Figuring out how to pay for a university or college education can be a stressful experience, especially when you likely have many questions about your first-year experience. Working over the summer is a great way to meet some of your costs and to have fun while you're at it.

Include a cover letter

Did you know that 6 out of 10 people will not submit a cover letter, even if it's requested by a company? In a survey by ResuméLab, a majority of hiring managers said that cover letters were crucial to their hiring decisions, and 77 percent gave preference to candidates who submitted one, even if cover letters were deemed optional on the application form.

Cover letters show hiring managers that you are serious about the job, what your motivations are and how you communicate.

Highlight your achievements

In the absence of having a lot of work experience, focus on any volunteer opportunities, awards, activities and memberships that showcase leadership skills or unique attributes.

Proof your resumé

Depending on the type of job you're applying for, a spelling or grammatical error on your resumé can take you out of the running. Don't rely on spell-check. Get a trusted family member or friend with stellar English skills to review your resumé before you apply.

Conduct practice interviews

It can be nerve-wracking to answer an interviewer's questions on the spot. Prepare for common and unique job interview questions, and rehearse your answers with a friend. Practice until you build confidence in yourself and what you have to offer.
