Summer's on the way: time to get connected, get social, and get active!

What a year! It's been a crazy one, filled with virtual learning, distanced get-togethers and social bubbles, but hooray! You're almost at the finish line!

As you prepare to graduate and start the next adventure — whether that means going off to a university, such as Tyndale, or taking the next year off — here are some words of advice to help you along the way.

1. Get active

If you haven't developed a healthy exercise regime, now is the time to start. Sign up for a team sport, go for a run, download a fitness app or join a virtual kickboxing class. Getting active will help reduce your mental stress and keep your body strong, which is especially helpful when you're cramming for exams or feeling anxious.

2. Socialize offline

Look for in-person opportunities to build your communication and social skills. Join clubs where you can develop your interests. Instead of posting big news on social media, call friends, host a video call or, better yet, tell them in person so that you can appreciate their facial expressions, body language and tone of voice. Knowing how to communicate effectively is a skill you will need for the rest of your life.

3. Keep connected

Your high school friends will stay in your life as long as you want them to, but you have to put in the effort. Send care packages to friends who have left town, and connect with your favourite teachers as well. They can become valuable mentors, give you references and job leads or provide advice, when needed.

Congratulations! Enjoy this next chapter in your journey, and make the most of it! (And don't forget to relax a little, too. You've earned it!)
