Advice and procedures on getting your degree overseas in the United Kingdom.

At Middlesex University, ranked #1 in London among modern universities, students get a practical, employment-focused education. Each of Middlesex's more than 300 programs is industry-relevant and taught by experts. It's no wonder that 91% of Middlesex University grads are employed within 6 months of graduating.

Plus, international graduates can remain in the UK for two years after graduating, on a post-study work visa. Middlesex is only 20 minutes by tube from central London's business and cultural hubs: a great place to get experience and build connections.

How to study in London and the United Kingdom

Applying to Middlesex University

Canadian students can apply to Middlesex University directly using the Online Applicant Portal. Students can submit an application, track its progress, and upload supporting documents, including portfolios and show-reels as necessary.

Canadian students can also get in touch with Middlesex's Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean. Admissions and recruitment experts are ready to help advise students about programs, accommodations, student visas, and more. Reach out via email.

Applying to other schools in the UK

Canadian students interested in applying to other schools in the United Kingdom should use the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). Students can apply to Middlesex and other UK schools at all levels through one convenient portal.

The deadline to apply to most programs in the United Kingdom is January 15, 2021. Some program areas, including Art and Design courses at Middlesex, have later deadlines, but students should aim to have all documents submitted by January 15.

(It's an open secret that many universities will continue to accept applications from international students beyond the January 15th deadline. Still, that's no reason to procrastinate!)

Writing your personal statement

Students applying through UCAS must submit a personal statement about their program choice, background, and aspirations. Canadian students should include a couple extra details in this short essay, like:

  • Why the student wants to study in the United Kingdom
  • English language skills and any language competency test results — if the student is a native English speaker, no test results are needed
  • Why the student wants to study internationally instead of in Canada

The personal statement is the student's chance to demonstrate their enthusiasm, academic and community strengths, and personality. UCAS offers great advice on writing a personal statement along with a list of dos and don'ts for applicants.

Arranging your student visa

Students need to add your passport number to your UCAS application, and may need to provide proof of English language proficiency.

Once accepted for study at Middlesex University or elsewhere, the student will receive a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). This CAS is needed for the visa application.

The Government of the UK makes it easy to find out if a student needs a visa, and UCAS offers lots of good advice on preparing and applying.

Middlesex University

Students who want to receive an Honours Bachelor degree in only 3 years of full-time study in London should apply to Middlesex University.
