Congratulations on your acceptance! You’ve finally narrowed down your options to one program, at one school. This is all great...but now what?

Now that you know where you’re going it’s time to figure out the what, the when and the how.

There are a few ways to help answer these questions and make sure you set yourself up to hit the ground running when you kickstart your academic career in September.

  1. 1. Focus On and Finish High School

  2. Even though you’ve secured your place in a College or University, don’t lose focus on your current education. Keep on top of the good grades that got you there and stay involved in extracurricular activities and finish your High School diploma as strong as you started so you can continue to confidently climb the academic ladder.

  3. 2. Be Conscious Around Campus

  4. Visit, and revisit your new campus. Many postsecondary campuses, like Humber College, have a spring Open House and campus tours. These can help you familiarize yourself with where important buildings, classrooms, housing and cafeteria areas are located. This will save you from scrambling to find your classes, new dorm and food the first week and allow you to focus on the important stuff!

  5. 3. Ask More Questions, Seek More Answers

  6. The only way to find out more about what you don’t know about your future school... is to ask! Take advantage of your resources by calling or emailing the admissions office, getting in touch with current students and recent graduates and do your research online. All of these sources of information will help paint a clearer picture of what you can expect and how you can be best prepared.

Remember, this is the first step of a whole new adventure in education. The more prepared you are when you arrive on your first day, the more you will get from your first year experience!
