Choosing a post-secondary institution can be overwhelming. What do you want to study? What are your career goals? Do you want a smaller campus in your local community, or a larger institution? Making time to attend public on-campus events, like an open house, is a great way for you to learn more and get a true feel for what life is like on campus. Need more convincing? We’ve compiled four great reasons you should check out an open house.
1) Meet students, alumni, and faculty
On-campus events like open house are a great opportunity to speak directly with members of the
university community. Ask specific questions, learn more about the student experience from current students, hear from successful alumni, and connect with instructors who teach a range of unique courses and
programs.
2) Go exploring
Open house is an ideal time to explore the campus in person and take a
guided tour. Make time to check out classrooms, workshops, study spaces, the library and more. Get a feel for the layout of campus, take a peek at where your first class might be, and scope out a good lunch spot.
3) Get hands-on
Put your skills to the test and try out interactive demos and activities. There’s plenty to do at open house—check out robotics simulators, get your blood pressure checked, test your knowledge with trivia, enter to win great prizes (including free tuition!) and capture it all in the photo booth!
4) Apply on the spot
