Welcome to another semester and a brand new year!

Save

Coming off of the end of one semester and the exams and assignments that came with it, and beginning not only a new semester but also a new calendar year can be a lot to manage. You have to buy new books, start new classes, meet new people, and sometimes establish new habits.

It may sound silly, but a holistic approach to life can really help combat some of the stress you may be feeling. In that spirit, we have some recommendations that we hope will make this semester a bit less stressful and a lot more fun!

Get moving. Go to the gym, go for a run, get your walk on, check out on-campus and local seasonal sports and activity options, join intermural sports, take a (gym/exercise) class…do whatever floats your body-moving boat and gets your blood flowing. There are huge correlations between physical activity and mental wellness and there truly is an activity for everyone – explore and find yours!

Engage in conversation. With family, friends, and post-secondary faculty, certainly, but don’t forget about the counseling professionals you have access to. Counseling services are almost always on campus and absolutely free for students, you just need to walk through the door and start talking.

Find your people. If you haven’t already, consider joining a club! Maybe it’s an academic club based on your program of study, maybe it’s a pre-professional club (pre-med, pre-law, pre-vet, for instance), or maybe it’s a non-academic club (at UNBC, our Medieval and Fencing clubs are some of our longest running clubs, to give you an idea of what’s out there). Whatever your interest, there is a lot to be said about being surrounded by your people, doing what you love to do.

However you live it, have a truly awesome new semester! For more information about UNBC, our programs and courses, tuition and fees, scholarships and financial aid, student life, and much more, please visit our prospective student website at unbc4u.unbc.ca or email us at unbc4u@unbc.ca.
