Hearing “no” from your post-secondary institution of choice is difficult!

Per Douglas Adams (of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy), a person who can stay in control of almost any situation is a person who knows where their towel is. Knowing that, don’t panic and know where your towel is.

Rejection is not easy to take and hearing “no” from your post-secondary institution of choice is difficult. Take heart in knowing that this isn’t always a final answer, and that you still have a lot of opportunity ahead of you.

One of our favourite things to tell prospective students at UNBC is to “work backwards.” That is, take your end goal – a career goal, a post-secondary institution goal, a professional program goal, or something else – and map your path from completion to beginning. This might mean taking a year of schooling in a different institution and then applying into your first choice as a transfer student with a competitive GPA, or it may mean completing the admission required undergraduate degree for your program of choice (medicine, law, education, or physical therapy, for example).

One of your most useful tools in this journey is your academic advisor. These savvy professionals can help you to navigate and keep your goals on track. Please seek them out, introduce yourself, and continue to see them at least once a semester (even just to check in on your progress).

We are still accepting late applications at UNBC. If you are interested in our general/non-competitive entry programs (a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Planning, or Bachelor of Commerce) and meet our general admission standards (please see http://unbc4u.unbc.ca/admission/admission.ezc for more information), you are guaranteed admission. If UNBC does not offer the program you’re interested in, we can certainly help you get there – via transfer credits, or the aforementioned undergraduate degrees required by many professional programs.
