Two Campuses: Peterborough and Durham

Trent University has two campuses, in Peterborough and the Durham GTA region. The Peterborough campus boasts award-winning architecture and a breathtaking natural setting on the banks of the Otonabee River, just 90 minutes from downtown Toronto. Trent University's newly renovated Durham GTA campus delivers education in the urban setting of Oshawa, Ontario.

Symons Campus, Peterborough

Building on a tradition of academic excellence spanning more than four decades in the east GTA, Trent University Durham offers a dynamic and rigorous educational experience rooted in the social sciences, humanities and professional programs.

Interdisciplinary studies in Business Administration, Nursing, Education, Forensic Science, Computer Science, Environmental and Resource Sciences, Pre-medical / Medical Professional Stream, and more. Please indicate preference for single or double rooms, or a annex (apartment style) building. Trent will accommodate these requests wherever possible. The number of beds may vary depending upon the number of requests to be accommodated. The majority of residence is co-ed.

Incoming Students

Orientation Week: A program which provides students with an opportunity to learn more about their campus, the services and resources available to them, and provide an opportunity to meet students leaders and other new students.

Career Planning

This unique program allows students and alumni to get an inside look at the career landscape, while gaining meaningful experiences and necessary perspectives. Opportunities are available both through the university and in the broader community. Careerspace is available to you at any point during your time at Trent. We encourage students to not wait until their final year to connect with us. We offer appointments, workshops, online resources, and opportunities to connect with employers and recruiters. These services are free for all Trent students and alumni.

Information Technology

Free access to University's computing facilities, which includes microcomputer based laboratories, time sharing terminals, and full access to the Internet from individual user accounts. Each student is given a free Internet account and can access it by modem and e-mail. Library catalogues are available online.

Cultural

Theatre Trent, Trent radio, music festivals, film series, student newspapers, debating club, choirs, symphony, Traditional Elders Gathering, National Rowing Regatta, the Writers Reading Series brings Canadian authors from across the country, guest speakers, writers and artists in residence, and northern lectures.

Special Services

Trent undertakes to ensure access to its academic programs and physical facilities to its students, faculty, and staff. The University has a Special Needs Office that offers a variety of services including transcription, note taking, exam invigilation, and liaison with faculty members and support agencies. Also available are a voice synthesizer, optical scanner, FM system, and four track tape recorders. Trent has some residence rooms, which can be adapted for mobility impaired students. Trent also offers individual and group assistance in writing, critical and efficient reading, mathematics, and study skills. Trent also has an AIDS Education Resource Centre, Native Studies Department that has cultural adviser and Aboriginal counsellor to assist students, Women's Centre, and a gay and lesbian student collective. Free to all students are the services of our Academic Skills Office, which conducts tutoring, workshops, and mentoring.

Trent also offers alumni mentoring or work internships for academic credit.

International Involvement

An energetic international program draws students from around the world and arranges exchanges and year abroad programs for Canadian undergraduates. International Exchange programs: Wales, Scotland, England, Iceland, South Africa, Malaysia, Israel, Korea (Seoul), Japan (Osaka), United States, Mauritius, Finland, and Germany (Baden-Württemberg). Year Abroad programs: Germany, France, Spain, Thailand, Ghana, and Ecuador. Research Institutes include the Frost Centre for Canadian Heritage and Development Studies Trent, Institute for the Study of Popular Culture Trent, Institute of Mass Spectrometry, and the Water Quality Centre.
