Cambrian College is an ideal place to create yourself, to create your future. Established in 1967, Cambrian College is the largest college of applied arts and technology in Northern Ontario with campuses located in Sudbury, Espanola, and Little Current. Areas of Expertise

Cambrian offers exceptional programs in mining and resource management, disability services, computer and engineering technology, skills and trades, business, communication and creative arts, community services, and health care and emergency services. The College offers more than 80 full-time programs, and more than 800 part-time continuing education programs, courses, seminars, customized training packages, and distance education opportunities. A number of these programs and courses are delivered in a distance education format through teleconferencing, independent study, and the Internet. Cambrian also works in partnership with numerous school boards, training institutes, universities, and other institutions locally, nationally, and internationally in order to provide additional educational opportunities, and to share expertise and resources.

The residences at the Barrydowne Campus can accommodate 677 students in total. There is a 300-bed townhouse-style residence; each unit provides kitchen and living room space, and six individual bedrooms along with basic furnishings and appliances. Two bedrooms in four of the 50 units have design adjustments to provide for students with special needs. There is also a 377-bed dorm-style residence; each suite consists of two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a kitchen with a fridge and microwave.

Incoming Students

Two Open Houses (one in November and one in April) are held for new students and their families. In addition, 'Countdown to Cambrian' is held in July. This orientation event is for registered first year students and their parents/companions. The one day event will enable participants to attend a variety of workshops designed to address both student and parent needs and inquiries, meet with staff, tour the campus and residences, and learn about college life. There are also orientation activities, which take place early in the school year as well as Frosh Week.

Career Planning

The Student Employment Services and Co-op Placement Office provides career and employment services to Cambrian College students, graduates, and alumni. Staff are available to assist with writing résumés and cover letters, planning for job interviews, and utilizing the Internet in job searching. A listing of full-time, part-time, summer, and contract positions is also maintained.

Sports

Cambrian College has excellent fitness facilities that are open to the public. Full-time Cambrian students with valid student cards are automatically members. The Athletic Centre features a 4,000 square foot modern weight training facility, four international squash courts, a double gymnasium, saunas, computerized cardio equipment, personal training, individualized fitness programs, fitness evaluations, a baseball diamond, beach volleyball courts, a soccer field, and a pro shop.

Activities

The student governments offer a number of activities throughout the academic year for Cambrian students. There are always socials, pub nights, and other celebrations held at the Student Centre - On the Rocks.

Clubs

There are numerous clubs and associations available including the Students' Administrative Council (SAC), the Cambrian Native Students' Association (CNSA), the Nurses' Association, Vision (Graphic Design Club), the Cambrian College Criminal Justice Association, the International Club, and the Mature Students' Association.

Information Technology

Students have access to open labs that are available throughout the day, evening, and on weekends. Internet and email access are available to all registered students from any computer lab.

Cultural

The Cambrian Native Students' Association (CNSA) represents both Native and non-Native Cambrian students who have an interest in First Nations' culture. Elections for council are held at the general meeting in September.

Special Services

Special needs services are available through the College's Glenn Crombie Centre for student services to assist students who have learning or physical disabilities, or hearing or vision impairments in achieving scholastic success and furthering their career goals. Affiliated Institutions

Cambrian College has signed a number of articulation agreements with universities. These are primarily designed to enhance student mobility, formally recognize credits earned at each institution, and facilitate the transfer of these credits between institutions. Currently, the College has formal agreements with Laurentian University (Sudbury, Ontario), Huntington University (Sudbury, Ontario), Thornloe University (Sudbury, Ontario), Ryerson University (Toronto, Ontario), Lake Superior State University (Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan), Northwood University (Midland, Michigan), Athabasca University (Athabasca, Alberta), Mount Royal College (Calgary, Alberta), Cape Breton University (Sydney, Nova Scotia), Algoma University (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario), the University of Lethbridge (Lethbridge, Alberta), Michigan Technological University (Houghton, Michigan), Thompson Rivers University (Kamloops, British Columbia), Swiss Connect (Zurich, Switzerland), Royal Roads University (Victoria, British Columbia), Lakehead University (Thunder Bay, Ontario), University of Ontario Institute of Technology (Oshawa, Ontario), Griffith University (Queensland, Australia), and the Marine Institute at Memorial University of Newfoundland (St. John's, Newfoundland).

International Involvement

Cambrian is involved in several international projects and has hosted students from Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Ecuador, Spain, Bermuda, Peru, Libya, Japan, China, India, and Hong Kong. Cambrian International, a department within the College, coordinates all international activities at Cambrian. Services available to international students include an orientation program upon arrival, special English language courses, and cultural activities.

Campus tours are the best way to experience what Cambrian College is all about. Bring your family and friends for a 45-minute tour and find out about our programs, facilities, and the services we offer. You’ll get a glimpse of college life, a sense of what we’re all about, and most importantly, answers to all of your questions. You are welcome to tour the campus on weekdays at 10:30 a.m. or at 2:30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 12 noon. Please note that pre-booking is required for all campus tours. Other

A number of other services are available to students including health services, a counselling centre, peer tutoring, student activities, cafeteria, campus watch program, employment services, women's centre, and financial aid office.
