| Description: | The Classical and Early Christian Studies (CECS) program combines the disciplines of Greek and Roman Studies, and Religious Studies, in its focus on the first eight centuries of Christianity. You'll explore the origins of Christianity and its Judaic background, the influence of both Judaic and Greco-Roman culture on its development, the political context in which Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire, and the development of the Christian church and its doctrines during this period. The language component is a central feature of the Classical and Early Christian Studies Honours program. You will take challenging and rewarding courses learning Greek, Latin and Hebrew in order to study early Jewish, Christian, Greek and Roman texts in their original languages. This program can be combined with a number of other programs at U of C, resulting in an Honours degree. Co-op is also available for Classical and Early Christian Studies students. The Co-operative Education version of the program will give you the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in up to four paid work terms of three months each. |
