| Description: | The Training Program is structured to expose the junior resident to a wide range of general obstetrics and gynecology by spending approximately six months in each of the areas of obstetrics and gynecology. The third and fourth years of the program allow the resident to be involved in each of the three major subspecialty areas, as well as a selection of rotations, including Pathology, Medicine, Surgery, and the general Ob/Gyn service at the Peter Lougheed Hospital. Rotations in pure Medicine and Surgery are no longer considered mandatory by the Royal College as long as the resident has participated in other areas deemed acceptable by the College such as Pathology, Critical Care Medicine, Urology, Neonatology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and/or Gynecologic Oncology. Elective time is available in a block to allow the resident to pursue a clinical or research interest for up to three months. The final year of the program is to include a rotation as Chief Resident with its attendant responsibilities, as well as rotations in general Obstetrics and Gynecology at the level of a senior resident. In general, elective rotations outside the specialty and off site rotations will not be permitted during the final year of training. |
