The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) is Ontario's first laptop-based university. Located in Oshawa, less than an hour east of Toronto, the university offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs through its faculties of Business and Information Technology; Criminology, Justice and Policy Studies; Education; Energy Systems and Nuclear Science; Engineering and Applied Science; Health Sciences; and Science.
UOIT has one of the highest rates of professors with PhDs among Canadian universities and these faculty members collectively speak more than 20 languages and hold degrees from more than 20 countries. Students benefit from strong academic programs that combine advanced knowledge in the field with the latest technology, leadership skills, and personal development. Students and professors collaborate on innovative research projects that will impact society.
UOIT offers a diverse array of market driven, career focused programs that prepare students for professions in a dynamic and ever changing workplace. The university was the first in Canada to offer a degree in Automotive Engineering and a Master’s degree in Information Technology Security.
As part of the school’s national award winning Mobile Learning program, all undergraduate UOIT students are equipped with high end laptops to enhance their learning experience.
The university’s campus houses an award winning Campus Library, innovative Crime Scene House, state of the art nursing lab, 200 seat computer learning commons, and extensive wireless access. The newest addition to campus is a 90,000 square foot expansion of the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre, featuring a triple gymnasium, fitness centre, and extensive health services.
In 2009, the General Motors of Canada Automotive Centre of Excellence will open on campus. The centre will be Canada’s premier automotive research and development centre, and is being built in partnership with GM and the Government of Ontario.
