Located in the heart of the national capital, the University of Ottawa, Canada's university, has held a unique place on the Canadian academic map since its inception. From its beginnings in 1848, the College of Bytown showed great promise. Now, as the University of Ottawa, the institution has emerged as a dynamic centre of learning with a total population, including students, teachers, and support staff, of 36,000. North America's premier bilingual university, the University of Ottawa is a major player in the cultural and economic development of the Canadian national capital region.
The University's ten faculties (Arts, Education, Engineering, Health Sciences, Law, Management, Medicine, Science, Social Sciences, and Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies) offer more than 300 undergraduate programs, as well as graduate programs leading to masters and doctoral degrees, in most disciplines, in both English and French.
The University of Ottawa offers programs in the areas of management, the arts and humanities, pure, applied, and health sciences, and in the professional fields of education, medicine and law.
