With 11 faculties and more than 3,600 courses in 180 areas of study, we offer students a wealth of choice and flexible degree programs. Our students can explore an incredible diversity of subjects or tailor studies to suit specific interests. Innovative new programs keep pace with evolving job markets from oil and gas engineering to a bachelor of informatics in computer science.

Undergraduate students can pursue degrees in the sciences, management, arts and social sciences, engineering, computer science, and the health professions. Our physical location makes us a leader in studies of oceanography and marine biology. Dalhousie also offers professional degrees in law, medicine, dentistry, architecture, and social work.

Our professors are global leaders in their fields. Students can study and research with internationally renowned experts in marine biology, atmospheric science, brain repair, theatre, information technology, design engineering, and much more.

Graduate students make up 20% of our student population, with more than 90 masters degree programs and more than 40 doctoral degree programs.

We believe that practical experience is also a valuable teacher. As a result, one in three Dalhousie students take part in cooperative education, lab research, community service, fieldwork, and exchanges around the world. 86 of our graduates are Rhodes scholars. Dalhousie is also known as one of the best places in the world to conduct research.

Every year, Dalhousie attracts more than 1,200 international students from over 100 countries. To help our international students, we provide special advisors, orientation programs, language tutors, and a writing centre. As well, we can also assist with immigration, health care, finances, travel, and personal matters.

Areas of Expertise

Arts and Social Science, Architecture and Planning, Dentistry and Dental Hygiene, Computer Science, Engineering, Law, Management, Health Professions, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Kinesiology, Health Promotion, and Medicine are Dalhousie's areas of special emphasis. Recognized strengths in Health and Ocean Studies are growing to include graduate programs in Materials Science, Oil and Gas, and Information and Communication Studies.
