The University of Northern British Columbia is one of Canada's best small universities. UNBC is Canada's Green University as it is surrounded by nature, the communities of the region are dependent on the environment and natural resources for their survival, the region is being challenged by environmental issues ranging from air quality to the mountain pine beetle epidemic and climate change, students/faculty/staff love outdoor recreation, the campus is a showpiece for natural materials, the proportion of students taking environmental programs at UNBC is 20 times the national average, and the majority of research funding is directed to environmental issues.
