| Description: | An animal health technologist is a valuable member of the animal health-care team who performs a large range of tasks, such as nursing; diagnostic procedures and client interactions; to assist veterinarians in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease in animals. Prospective students must be highly motivated and have a genuine interest in animals and their welfare. A.H.T.'s must handle ill or injured animals, and physical demands involve lifting, bending, and the restraint of animals. Your good communication skills and ability to interact effectively with people are essential to your success in this program and in the career field. Students receive theoretical and clinical training in laboratory work, radiology, surgical assisting, anesthesiology, nursing care, and management of the veterinary hospital. A number of course hours are completed off campus and involve weekend and shift work. Transportation is the student’s responsibility. |
