| Description: | Every building and structure must be protected from the weather. Residential, commercial, and industrial roofs all require a process to keep out the elements or be waterproofed. The Roofer program at NAIT includes all types of roofing; both steep roofing and flat roofing. During the Roofer Apprenticeship Technical training at NAIT, the apprentices spend half their time in a classroom, learning the theoretical foundation for the proper assembly techniques of building components using a variety of building materials such as asphalt and wood shingles, concrete tiles, asphalt built-up membranes, PVC membranes, and metal or membrane flashings. As an integral part of this theoretical foundation, the apprentices will receive instruction on the correct use and interpretation of shop drawings, blueprints, building codes, and the related trade mathematics. The remaining time is spent in a shop setting where the apprentices apply the theoretical concepts to real construction challenges. |
