Description: This program will examine both theory and the practice of heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, air handling, electricity, and control systems. Emerging renewable energy technologies are highlighted and energy efficiency principles are applied to all studies. Building systems software training is included and practical hands-on experiences exist throughout the program. If you have an existing post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, or directly related Technology disciplines, you may apply to fast track your credentials. If you meet the requirements, you could gain direct entry into the second year of this program.

You’ll benefit from opportunities for optional co-op placement and involvement with employers throughout the entire building industry while studying in BTS.

All students enrolled in a co-operative education program will be charged an additional, non-refundable, administrative fee. Collection of the fees will commence with the semester in which the first Co-op Professional Practice subject is scheduled, at the rate of $495.00 per work term.

Admission Requirements

  • Grade 12 English
  • Grade 12 Mathematics

Program Eligibility:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma with a majority of senior credits at the College Preparation (C), University Preparation (U) or University/College Preparation (M) level or Mature Student Status (age 19 or older). If applicant is a mature student, he/she must have completed the required prerequisite course(s), their equivalent(s), or have obtained appropriate Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) Certificate program credits.
- Grade 12 English: ENG4(C) or ENG4(U)
- Grade 12 Mathematics: (C) or (U) or Grade 11 Mathematics: MCR3(U)


* Seneca may also consider applicants with good grades in MAP4(C) (80% or over recommended) or MCR3(U) (70% or over). Students with grades lower than these recommended benchmarks and who test below the appropriate level in the skills assessment can expect to be placed into a preparatory mathematics course or will be counseled to enroll in the Applied Science and Technology Fundamentals Certificate Program.

International students whose first language is not English must fulfill an English Proficiency requirement in order to qualify for application. English Proficiency requirements are as follows for consideration: A minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper based) or 80 (internet based with no test below 20) - TOEFL code 9212, OR Academic IELTS with an overall minimum score of 6.0 (with no single test score below 5.5), ORCAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment) with an overall band score of 50

Additional Admission Requirements:
All applicants who are offered admission to programs in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering Technology will have an English and Mathematics skills assessment. The assessments are used for academic placement in English and Mathematics courses that are appropriate to the student’s skill level. In the event a preparatory course is required before enrolling in the standard first semester English or Mathematics, students will automatically be timetabled into the appropriate preparatory course.
