Five tips for dealing with rejections
by Jessica M. Barr
- Don't panic!
- Try another school. Many schools will accept applications for certain programs right up 'til the day school starts. Later you can try transferring to your school of choice.
- Try another program. Missed out on engineering? Try to get into general science. After you're in you can prove you've got what it takes to be accepted into the more competitive programs.
- Learn from your mistakes. Try to understand what you may have done wrong this time. If your grades aren't high enough, consider taking another year to upgrade your high school marks.
- Re-evaluate. Are you sure about your school and program choices? If so, think about committing to those choices by using your year off to volunteer or work in your desired field, and to improve your skills so that next time you have the perfect application, portfolio and experience to back it up.
