The preparation leading to the first day of University is an exciting time – whether you are purchasing school supplies, getting ready for a move, or visiting your soon to be school, there’s a sense of anticipation in the air (and potentially nervousness!). At the University of Northern British Columbia, we have a large support system designed to welcome students, and help them succeed. Check out some of the events and services below, aimed to help you make the most of your university experience.

  • Orientation – Ignite Your Passion:
Orientation is an incredible one and a half day event that is designed to introduce you to the academic, social and cultural life at UNBC. Each event at Orientation is designed to help you get connected to the UNBC community of students, faculty, and support services. With events like academic orientation, interactive tours, Pump-it-up!, and Playfair, you will be sure to meet new people, build new friendships, and familiarize yourself with the campus and the resources within it!
  • Passport to UNBC: Introduce Yourself to Student Services
Want a one-stop-shop document of UNBC’s Student Services, and a checklist of things you should do prior to your arrival and once you are on campus? Then be sure to check out this Passport! Tips for success, frequently asked questions, and a description of our student services departments will be sure to help you navigate your academic career.
  • Join a Club!
With over 50 student clubs run by the Northern Undergraduate Student Society (NUGSS), you will be sure to find something you love! Students can be part of a tradition, or start a new legacy – it’s a great way to become involved.
  • Learn Valuable Study Skills with the Academic Success Centre:
Start smart, and visit the Academic Success Centre (ASC)! ASC offers a variety of one-to-one and drop-in tutoring services, including online support. In addition, ASC provides specialized services for students who are learning English, and peer-led learning programs such as Supplemental Instruction. To ensure quality service in all learning environments all of ASC’s tutors and peer leaders receive on-going certified training. What’s even better is that these services are free for UNBC students!
