Choosing the right university is about more than just academics: it's about finding a place where you'll be comfortable enough to learn well, a place you'll want to call home for the next 4 years. You need strong student supports, vital community, and fun opportunities to get involved. At CMU you will find all these things, and more!

CMU has two major advantages over many other schools in the area.

First, due to our small size, people at CMU get to know each other on a whole different level from other schools. Dorms and classrooms have a distinct “neighbourhood” feel, profs and students know each other by name. The closeness and exceptional availability of support also fosters strong student leadership, the heart and soul of res life.

Second, our staff and students share a commitment to fostering spiritual community. Weekly fellowship groups, chapels and faith-based forums run on a variety of themes each year, providing spaces for authentic, vulnerable conversations about the forces that drive our lives.

CMU has a vibrant body of commuters; off-campus students have their own lounge and commuter events, and our bike co-op and volunteer mechanics are available for cyclists.

We also have an expanding roster of clubs and academic projects on the go: the Psychology Students' Association, and Borogove Society (English dept) are great resources for passionate students wanting to build connections and develop their skills. Soul in Paraphrase (annual literary journal) and The Doxa (student newspaper) are outlets for nascent writers. Monthly faculty forums welcome students to take in some advanced discourse.

And once you've tasted a bit of everything, when midterms loom, you can take your worries to PAL, our student cooperative of volunteer tutors, for a little help from your friends to make the grade!
