If you are a Grade 12 student, December probably means graduation pressure is setting in. You may feel anxious, trying to determine what you want to “do with your life.” Or, you may be itching to get out and experience something bigger than school, before plunging into post-secondary and career.

If you're an undergrad, New Year’s Eve may find you reconsidering the plans you made in September. You may find that your studies to this point have changed your mind on some important things, leaving you unsure about your present trajectory.

If either of these descriptions fits you, then you need to get Outtatown!

CMU's Outtatown Discipleship School is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel the world, gain new exposure and experiences, build lifelong relationships, and develop broader perspective.

Students considering Outtatown need to know it is not a missions trip.

While our approach and worldview are from the Christian tradition, we believe that as learners and guests in the locations we visit, service and dialogue are more appropriate expressions of faith than direct evangelism.

There are three programs: the Guatemala and South Africa trips run a full academic year, and our bilingual program—which visits Quebec, Paris and Burkina Faso in West Africa—runs one semester.

Each program offers unique opportunities for hands-on experiential learning, and engagement with the theoretical background of salient issues.

Students in Guatemala learn about the impacts of colonialism and civil war on the country. South Africa focuses on political issues of peace and conflict resolution, in light of the nation's apartheid history.

Burkina Faso looks at the linguistic, religious, and other dynamics of intercultural encounter, such as the French-English dynamic in Canada, and the Western-Muslim dynamic in West Africa.
