Searching for the right school is a big job. Do you want a big university or small one? Should you go to a school that is technology-based or known more for its arts programs? Do you want to be in a co-op program?

Here are some things to think about when starting your search:

  • What type of school are you interested in? Are you looking for a comprehensive university or one that specializes in certain areas? The University of Waterloo has many specialized programs along with more comprehensive degrees that allow you to explore your interests.
  • What subjects do you wish to study? Whether you are thinking about a specific area of study or a degree encompassing many different disciplines, the choices are immense. Programs such as Arts and Business at Waterloo allow you to take a broad range of courses.
  • What potential careers can you pursue? Adding a co-op option to your degree not only gives you experience and lets you earn money, it allows you to try different career areas.

One of the best ways to learn about universities is to visit those that interest you. Each campus feels different, so it’s valuable to see different campuses to see if you’ll enjoy studying there for 4 years. Campus tours and open houses are great ways to gather lots of information.

Choosing the right university can be a big task, but thinking about your interests and goals ahead of time can make your decisions much easier.
