Study Abroad for a Semester or Year
Students currently pursing a degree in Canada can spend a semester or year abroad at a university in Australia. Studying abroad allows you to experience another country and culture while earning credit towards your degree in Canada. As a directly enrolled student, you will take classes alongside both Australian and other international students, live on or off campus, travel to various sites, and develop friendships with other students from around the world. All universities in Australia are excellent institutions of higher learning, with programs respected throughout the world.

Internships
Internships in Australia provide another opportunity to experience the country and culture. Spend a few weeks or a few months working within an Australian business gaining experience in your field of interest. Internships are an incredible chance for an individual looking to learn new skills and complete job assignments that will facilitate career advancement. Furthermore, internships in a foreign country offer benefits beyond just professional development. An internship in Australia presents the opportunity to be completely immersed within the culture and work environment. Working side-by-side with native Australians provides an intimate view into the beauty of the culture and customs, and as an English-speaking destination, the issues of language barriers will not obstruct the experience. The experience of working within Australia lends a real-world understanding of a country rich in culture, which cannot be achieved through travel or study alone.

Undergraduate Study
Bachelor Degree options in Australia are many and available in all disciplines.

• Typically a three year program
• Students take only courses that lead and relate directly to their degree (no unrelated liberal arts classes like those taken by undergrads in Canada
• A 4th year is required in some specialized and professional fields
• Combined or double-degrees are also available and are usually 4-6 years in length.
• Undergraduate entry in Law, Medicine, Veterinary Science and other professional degrees available. Some fields have very competitive entry.
• Students need a high school diploma

Graduate Schools

• Master's Degrees average length is 1.5 - 2 years with some as short as 1 year
• Master's by Coursework involves a program of 70-80% classes and a minor thesis project during the second half of the degree
• Master's by Research involves 100% intensive, self-directed research leading to the production of a thesis or major research project with guidance from supervisory professor
• Must have a bachelor's degree in a related area of study to apply
• Students should have research experience or have completed a Bachelor of Honours degree to apply for Master's by Research

Teacher Education
Several hundred Canadian students undertake teacher education programs in Australia every year. The programs are appealing not only because of the transferability of the qualifications back to Canada, but because of how the extraordinary experience of studying and living in another country enhances the experience of becoming a teacher.

• Students undertake a Graduate Diploma of Education or other graduate teaching program and the qualifications allow students to register as a teacher in Canada.
• Programs typically 1 year in length, however some 1.5 - 2 year options also available
• Entry not competitive due to large choice of programs and universities
