Germanic or Slavic Studies (MA)

In this MA, you’ll focus on either our Germanic or Slavic studies stream. You’ll study under leading academics in a collaborative environment, who will supervise thesis projects on literature, cultural history, second-language acquisition and film. In both streams, you’ll also have the opportunity to attend our I-Witness field school.

Outcomes

Students in this program will:

  • demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of key concepts, historical events, and themes in Germanic or Slavic culture
  • apply advanced research methodologies and analytical perspectives to identify critical lines of inquiry and formulate nuanced research questions
  • critically engage with and synthesize information, working with primary sources and diverse forms of cultural expression (such as literature, visual arts, film)
  • exhibit a broad understanding of German, Russian and Ukrainian cultural and literary sources, and a capacity to navigate primary sources in their original language
  • demonstrate the capacity to complete a substantial research project
  • present scholarly work in diverse professional settings
  • work at an advanced level in public sector agencies, non-profits international organizations and human rights advocacy
