Algoma's residence is located within a two minute walk of Shingwauk Hall (classrooms and library) and the Athletic Building. The facility offers 15 townhouse units consisting of five single bedrooms each. Some units are handicapped accessible. Each unit is equipped with a kitchen and a common living/dining room. Rooms are assigned primarily on a first come, first served basis, although priority may be given to first year, out of town students. In room telephone and cable hook ups are available through local providers. Connection to the University's computer network system can be arranged through the Department of Computing Services with a nominal deposit.
The dormitory style facility consists of single rooms; each is fully furnished with a bed, desk, chair, shelf, dresser, closet, and telephone (local calls only, phone cards are available). There is one bathroom available per two students. All dorm students have access to a microwave, vending machines, and TV in the common room.

The Department of Student Services offers a range of workshops, counselling, academic advising, and an orientation program to assist in the transition to university.
The Employment Services and Career Resource Centre offers help with resume and cover letter writing. The Centre also offers updated employment postings, Internet access to labour market information, a career skills library, and staff resources. Information is also available regarding aptitude testing and overseas employment.
The George Leach Centre is a fully equipped fitness and recreation facility. The Centre includes court surfaces accommodating badminton, basketball, volleyball, and tennis. Also available are aerobics rooms, weight training equipment, outdoor tennis courts, and on site massage therapy. Instructional programs available include aerobics, dance, self defence, tennis, golf, and first aid.
A full range of activities are available on campus including student association sponsored events, concerts, March Madness, Welcome Week, poetry readings, and weekly pub nights.

Computing equipment throughout the campus, including the library cataloguing/circulation system, is integrated into a local area network. The network links over 100 micro computer workstations located in student labs, faculty and staff offices, residence rooms, and the library. The aim of this network is to provide students, faculty, and staff with universal access to information systems, e-mail, Internet and Web access, and sophisticated computing resources. All students, staff members, and faculty are issued a personal e-mail account.
Cultural groups include the International Film Society, Algoma Conservatory of Music, and Theatre Algoma. These groups are open to students and also organize events throughout the year.
Algoma University offers Special Needs Counselling, Native Student Counselling, and a general Student Services Department to assist all students.
Exchange/Study Abroad programs provide an exciting opportunity for Algoma U students to gain international experience while completing degree studies!

The Algoma Exchange program is open to current, full-time students entering their second or third year of a degree program, carrying a minimum overall average of 70%. Application is required.
Tours are available any time of the year. However, we recommend that you visit between September and March while classes are in session; this will allow you to meet with faculty and sit in on a class while you are on campus.
