Prerequisites NotesBy the time students enter the BDC program, they must have successfully completed a Level II Science, Health Sciences, or a relevant Level II program, with a minimum 10 full courses or 20 half courses (two years of undergraduate course work). Please note that co-op work terms do not count towards the course work requirement. Only degree courses at an accredited university will be considered. While the program is open to applicants from a diverse range of programs, at minimum, applicants must have completed first year biology and chemistry. By February 1st, applicants are expected to have achieved an overall average of at least 3.0 on the OMAS 4.0 Scale for consideration. On the McMaster 12-point scale this is an 8.0 (B). Students who are enrolled in a co-op program are to contact the program office regarding admission eligibility.

DescriptionThe Biomedical Discovery and Commercialization (BDC) program is a new, limited enrollment offering by the Department of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences with key contributions from the School of Business. The training program will encompass level III and IV of undergraduate studies as well as a 12-month course-based Master program. The latter will include a 4-month internship in the health sciences sector. This limited enrollment program will afford a unique educational experience for students seeking first-rate training in the biomedical sciences with an emphasis on drug discovery and development.

Advanced training in biomedical discovery will come from accomplished research faculty who will provide individual mentorship in cutting-edge research investigations, and award-winning professors in the School of Business will instruct students in the fundamentals of commerce. At the nexus of science and business, the program will reach out in an extraordinary way to the commercial health sciences sector for its participation, both as guest lecturers in the classroom and as mentors in the community. In all, innovative educational methods using experiential, inquiry and team based learning approaches will be a hallmark for this exciting new program. Thus, students will benefit from a vanguard, multi-disciplinary educational experience aimed at positioning graduates for career success in the health sciences sector.
