Description:

Paramedics are on the front line of the Emergency Medical Services. As the Profession expands, the demand for highly skilled individuals will continue to grow. This program of study is delivered over a sixteen month period. Spaced breaks appear for independent study and holidays. The total program consists of 1057.5 instructional hours and 563 clinical hours. The curriculum is taught using an Integrated Medical Model where as single topic is the focus on a weekly basis beginning with Anatomy on the first day of the week, Pathology on the second, the third day focuses on the Patient Care Theory of the same topic, and the fourth day the practical component is covered.

The student will gain knowledge of the use of skills acquired during theory and clinic/practical classes and apply this knowledge in the field in a variety of settings including hospital/clinic and land ambulance, all under the supervision of a qualified preceptor. Placements are scheduled throughout the school calendar at Hospitals and Ambulance services within commuting distance of Burlington. Availability for weekends and shift work is a requirement.

Prerequisites:

  •  Grade12 Mathematics 
OSSD or equivalent. Grade 11 or Grade 12 Biology (SBI3C, SBI3U or SBI4U), or equivalent. Grade 12 Mathematics (MAP4C, MCT4C, MDM4U, MCB4U, MGA4U, MCV4U or MHF4U). English Language Proficiency (if English is second language). Complete immunization record including immunization against Hepatitis B, poliomyelitis, tetanus, diphtheria, MMR, chickenpox, influenza and test negative on the Two-Step Tuberculin Skin Test. Valid CPR-C for HCP and Standard First Aid certificates. Two letters of personal character reference/ Physical Abilities form completed by a physician.
