This unique MA will give you the opportunity to specialise, collaborate, and push the boundaries of your practice within a theatre arts framing, whatever your artistic background. Whether you are looking to design, devise, direct, critique, curate, manage, perform, or write, this flexibly designed course will enable you to investigate and evolve your practice to a professional standard.

At Middlesex we prepare the next generation of theatre professionals to be pioneering and innovative practitioners with advanced skills and contemporary knowledge of their chosen discipline. Through a combination of practice-based assignments, theoretical inquiry and independent research in your field, you will develop the skills to locate and advance your work in both national and international professional contexts.

Prerequisites:

Test Scores:
  • International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5]
Application Notes : You must have competence in English language to study with us. The most commonly accepted evidence of English language ability is IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all components). We also normally require Grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification.
Additional Admission Requirements:
  • Portfolio
We normally require a second-class honours degree 2:2 or above, in an appropriate subject.

We welcome applications from any individual from an Arts or Humanities background already drawn to, or practising in, the theatre arts.

You will bring with you a desire to investigate the possibilities available to you in your area of theatre arts, with a strong understanding of how specific forms and disciplines sit within interdisciplinary performance contexts. You will be keen to engage critically and collaboratively with creative forms that are new to you as you nurture your individual artistic practice.

We will consider all applications on their individual merit; successful applicants should demonstrate suitability, dedication and fitness for their chosen programme of study. All candidates are asked to submit evidence of previous production and creative practice, normally presented as a portfolio.

As far as possible, students are required to attend an interview. You should allow plenty of time for the whole interview process as you will be offered the opportunity to view the facilities and meet appropriate staff and students. We use the interview to find out more about you, to better understand your aspirations and interests, and to explore why you want to study with us. Where prior qualifications are not available applicants with appropriate experience will be assessed on the evidence of their commitment and the quality of their portfolio.
