Description:

Professional 'Building Services Engineers' design all of the systems that are necessary in a building for occupants to carry out their business. These systems include: heating, lighting, air conditioning and electrical systems. The work is varied: all kinds of projects are undertaken, from refurbishing historic buildings to installing state-of-the-art systems in high-tech electronics facilities and hospitals. The role is increasingly involved with the provision of sustainable, energy efficient and green buildings within our society. Services have to be carefully designed and installed so that they are unobtrusive and aesthetically pleasing, and also work in harmony with the architecture of the building.

The course is a first degree of between 3 and 5 years' duration depending upon the entry point and is accredited as meeting in full the academic requirement for IEng (Incorporated Engineer) by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE). Further study on an accredited MSc or ‘matching section’ is normally required before applying to become a Chartered Engineer (CEng). If CEng is your goal you should seriously consider studying our MEng Building Services Engineering which provides a shorter and more cost effective way to fulfil the academic requirement for CEng than the alternatives.
