Description:

Our three-year course prepares you to teach the wider primary school curriculum, as well as developing the specialist mathematics knowledge you’ll need to teach primary school children. You’ll study English, mathematics, science and computing in children’s education. Some of the practical skills you’ll learn include creative ways to teach reading, writing and expressive arts, how to plan lessons, and how to write learning plans for your class.

You’ll progress to focus more on mathematics units, exploring innovative ways to teach mathematics, as well as improving your subject knowledge. These units help to prepare you to lead mathematics education in your school and support your colleagues in teaching mathematics. Placements are a really important part of this course. On your placements, some of your day-to-day tasks might be teaching English, mathematics and foundation subjects (such as history and art), supporting children in the playground, and liaising with both parents and teaching professionals such as speech and language therapists who work with the children in your class.
