Description:

The environmental science curriculum has increased steadily at AUP. To the single course offered in environmental science before 2012, we have added now very popular introductory level courses in oceanography, climate change, natural disasters and animal behavior. Students may now also attend an upper level seminar course in current environmental issues and many have completed their final thesis project in environmental topics such as extinction processes, electronic waste and fresh water resources.

The enriched course offering at AUP is matched by a new trio of environmentally themed modules. Since 2012, students at AUP may choose to pursue an “Environmental Science” minor or a major in “Quantitative Environmental Sciences”. The minor was an overnight success while the major, now in its second year, shows steadily growing enrollments. Finally, this new interdisciplinary major in Environmental Studies was added to the curriculum in fall 2015.

The Environmental Studies major is tailored to AUP’s Global Explorer, combining and transcending established disciplines in the most treasured interdisciplinary Liberal Arts tradition while relying heavily on a plurality of national and cultural life experiences among students.
