Description:

Selkirk College offers a great start to an undergraduate degree in geology. After completing your first year at Selkirk, you can go on to most universities and continue into the second year of a geology degree program.

If science isn't your passion, but you need science credit for another program or degree, geology is a great option for students coming from a wide variety of backgrounds. Geology provides an integrated perspective because it is a synthesis of chemistry, physics, geography, biology and mathematics.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    By taking GEOL 132 and GEOL 142 along with first year physics, chemistry, math and English, you will be well prepared to enter the second year of a geology program at most degree granting institutions.

    Test Scores:
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Computer Based) [min. 213] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.0] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 79-80]
    Application Notes : If your first language is not English, you must meet the following English Language Proficiency requirements for entry in to Selkirk College University Transfer, Diploma or Degree programs: completion of BC English 12, or equivalent; or completion, with a grade of "C+" or better, advanced core courses in the Selkirk College English Language Program and Provincial Level English 51; or submission of a TOEFL score of 213 (computer) or ibt 79-80 or better; or submission of an IELTS score of 6.0 or better; or submission of an EIKEN Grade Pre -1; or submission of an acceptable score on the Language Proficiency Index score of 4 or better. For Indian students coming through the SPP program, the IELTS requirement for diploma programs is 6.0 with no band less than 5.5.
