The MA (Hons) in Primary Education with History programme aims to support you to become an educator who will develop professional values of trust, respect, integrity and a commitment to the principles of social justice. Based in the Moray House School of Education, you will have the opportunity to develop a deep knowledge and understanding of learning, of children as individual learners, and of the pedagogies associated with the primary curriculum. Through extended and sustained professional practice, you will develop professional expertise, knowledge of the curriculum in action and a critical understanding of the complexities of school and community.

Additionally, the MA (Hons) in Primary Education with History offers students the opportunity to combine the study of Education with the discipline of History. The University’s School of History, Classics & Archaeology is one of Europe’s great centres for the study of the human past.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    The typical offer is likely to be:
    • SQA Highers: AABB.
    • A Levels: AAB.
    • IB: 34 points (grades 655 at HL).

    Minimum entry requirements
    • SQA Highers: ABBB by end of S5 or ABBBB/AABB from S4-S6. Higher English required (if English at Grade C, then Mathematics at Grade B expected). National 5: Mathematics at Grade B. For alternative acceptable Mathematics qualifications please contact the Admissions Office.
    • A Levels: ABB including English or Mathematics. GCSEs: Mathematics at Grade B, English Language and English Literature both at Grade C.
    • IB: Award of Diploma with 34 points overall and grades 655 in HL subjects including English. SL: Mathematics at Grade 5.
    Application Notes : It is important that applicants for our primary and secondary education programmes are able to show commitment, motivation and suitability for their chosen degree programme.

    This can be demonstrated through relevant work experience with children, reflecting on this experience and explaining your understanding of the role of a teacher.
    Additional Admission Requirements:
      Protecting Vulnerable Groups - All successful applicants will be required to join Disclosure Scotland's Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme before starting the programme. In addition, all applicants who don't live in the UK, or who have spent more than a year abroad, will need to provide equivalent verification from the relevant national authority.
