Description:

The primary purpose of the Schulich Dental Clinician-Scientist (DCS) program is to provide an opportunity for highly qualified students to prepare for academic careers in oral health research The DCS program consists of a PhD degree in an area of research relevant to dentistry followed by a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. The program is directed towards highly motivated students whose career objective is to become productive clinician-scientists in dental research or academic dentistry. This is a joint-degree program (PhD/DDS).

    Students interested in the DCS program should already hold an honors or masters degree, to ensure sufficient academic training and some research experience.
    Canadian Citizens or students with Canadian Permanent Residency status will be considered for admission. In the event of a conflict, the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) regulations will supersede the regulations of the DCS program.
    Application Notes : Students interested in the DCS program and applying from universities other than Western University should explore research opportunities at Western by contacting the Assistant Director of Research-Dentistry, and the graduate program in which they might conduct their research. In addition students are expected to visit Western University after making initial enquiries. Candidates who start their planning well in advance of the December deadline have the opportunity to make scholarship applications (e.g. the Ontario Graduate Scholarship) through their (proposed) graduate program.

    In order to apply to the DCS program, candidates must either (a) have commenced PhD studies[1] in the year of application or (b) have applied to, or been accepted into, a PhD program with a proposed start date of September of the following year or earlier. In either case, the research must be conducted at the University of Western Ontario and be of relevance to dentistry. All DCS candidates must submit a full application to the DDS program (December 1 deadline) as well as a summary of program research, steatment of career goals, CV and letters of reference.
