Description:

Our degree in Economics, Statistics and Mathematics is about the real world: about how people respond to incentives, and the production and allocation of resources. Think how many news items involve economics: the global recession, tax, interest rates, prices, and the job market. There are two major strands in economics: Microeconomics which looks at the individual firm and consumer, attempting to understand their behaviour and motivations, and; Macroeconomics which focuses on the economy as a whole, covering major themes like taxation, investment and inflation.

Your degree will combine a core of macroeconomics, microeconomics and the quantitative techniques used in economic analysis and investigation, taught in the School of Economics and Finance with modules in mathematics and statistics taught in the School of Mathematical Sciences. You will therefore concentrate on the more quantitative aspects of economics. Some of your work will be computer intensive, using networked terminals in the School’s computer laboratories.
