Description:Our two-year education program grows out of a Christian perspective and provides significant opportunities for learning and practicing classroom skills. If you are called to teach and are convinced that you belong in the classroom, Redeemer provides a rigorous teacher education that will prepare you to become an Ontario Certified Teacher. Redeemer’s Bachelor of Education offers graduates the opportunity to teach in a wide variety of schools, including Public, Catholic, and independent Christian schools.

Redeemer’s program has received general accreditation with the Ontario College of Teachers and meets Ontario standards for teacher education programs for the primary, junior, and intermediate levels. Successful candidates will be recommended to the Ontario College of Teachers for a Certificate of Qualification and Registration. Some students may also qualify for the Ontario Christian School Teacher’s Certificate issued jointly by the Ontario Alliance of Christian Schools (OACS) and Edifide. Redeemer graduates also qualify for Teacher Certification with the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).

After two terms at Redeemer, a student may apply for provisional admission to the teacher education program.

Admission Requirements

Test Scores:
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 570] or Canadian Academic English Language Assessment [min. 70] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5]

Applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in English through one of the following: TOEFL test score of 570, IELTS test score of 6.5, or CAEL test score of 70. Students who have studied for the last three years in a school where English is the primary spoken/written language may be exempt from language requirements.

Additional Admission Requirements:
  • Work Experience
When applying, students must provide evidence that they have had at least 25 hours of experience working in an elementary school setting with school-aged children. This requirement is normally met by completing Education 021: Classroom Observation, but equivalent experience may be accepted as a substitute. Students who meet the minimum academic requirements will be interviewed by the Department of Education concerning their interest and qualification for studies in education.
