|Description:||The McMaster Studio Arts BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) is an intensive program that prepares students for career success as artists while building skills in critical thinking, visual literacy, and entrepreneurial innovation. Our courses offer rigorous exploration of a wide range of media including sculpture, printmaking, painting, drawing, ceramics, installation, digital technologies and hybrid practices. This material-based learning combines with courses in art history, contemporary art, studio research, professional practice and open electives. Students are encouraged to identify their personal interests and goals early in the program and work towards an individualized plan of study in their third and fourth years.
Housed within the newly renovated Dr. Robert and Andr?e Rh?aume Fitzhenry Studios and Atrium, this intimate program allows for individualized learning and mentorship. Our unique focus on environmentally responsible practice teaches alternatives to toxic media. We are one of only three postsecondary institutions in Ontario that teach foundry. Studio connections with Engineering, Communications Studies and Multimedia and other disciplines facilitate collaborative learning. The university environment provides access to many resources such as the McMaster Museum of Art, the anatomy lab, the library archives and the Royal Botanical Gardens nature reserves. Off campus, Hamilton?s art scene is blossoming, and our students engage actively in this vibrant community. Our central location also provides easy access to other art communities in the region including Buffalo and Toronto.
