Description:

Pathology, the study of the essential nature of disease, uses a wide variety of approaches to elucidate mechanisms responsible for disease. Because of its close academic and clinical ties with the QEII Health Sciences Centre and the Izaak Walton Killam Health Centre for Children, Women and Families which provide tertiary care for the entire Canadian Maritime region, the Dalhousie Pathology Department is able to offer an unsurpassed milieu in which to pursue experimental pathology.

    Candidates for admission must hold at least a four-year Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (B average) in the last 60 credit hours from a university of recognized standing. Applicants are required to have an average of A- in last year of studies. In addition, candidates with the MD degree may be admitted
    Test Scores:
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 580] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 92] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 7] or Michigan English Language Assessment Battery [min. 85] or CanTEST [min. 4.5]
    Application Notes : English is the language of study at Dalhousie; therefore all applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate their capacity to pursue a graduate-level program in English before admission. Dalhousie accepts a number of different English proficiency test scores: Internet-based TOEFL- 92; Written TOEFL - 580; MELAB - 85; IELTS - 7; CanTest - 4.5 (with no band score lower than 4.0); or CAEL 70 with no band score lower than 60. Alternatively, a prospective student may enroll in the ESL program with the Dalhousie College of Continuing Education and obtain a grade of at least A- on the final stage of that training. The language competency test may be waived if the applicant has completed a degree at a recognized university where the language of instruction is English. The claims must be verified by the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Test scores are valid for two years from the date the test was written.
