|Description:||Nanotechnology (often shortened to "nanotech") is the study of materials and systems at an atomic and molecular scale. The sizes involved in these studies are based on the nanometre (nm) which is one billionth of a metre (or 0.000000001m). Nanotechnology is creating many new materials and devices with a vast range of applications, such as in electronics, biochemistry, medicine, and energy production. Following investment by the Province, Alberta is fast becoming the Canadian hub for nanotechnology.
The Program will provide a strong foundation of electronics, material science, instrumentation, chemistry, and biochemistry, supported by courses in communications, ethics, and management. Students will gain lab experience and learn clean room protocols in sessions at partner instititutions located at the University of Alberta and the Edmonton Research Park. Students will work with equipment and systems used by manufacturing companies and researchers alike.
