|Description:||This one-year Ontario College Certificate program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary for support services in veterinary and other animal care settings. Students build their knowledge of the veterinary environment, learn basic lab procedures, animal handling, restraint, grooming techniques and client service skills. Effective client relations with pet owners are fundamental in providing quality pet care. The development of strong interpersonal and communication skills is emphasized as the key to client service. Although emphasis is placed on small-animal medicine, students also learn about common issues that are encountered in mixed animal practices, shelter medicine and laboratory animal care.
An expanding pet care industry has created a demand for skilled workers in the field. Employment opportunities for educated veterinary assistants are numerous including veterinary clinics, breeding facilities, pet care businesses and research facilities.
