Description:The undergraduate curriculum stresses central aspects of biology required for a balanced education, namely, form and function, cell and molecular biology, genetics and evolution, biodiversity, systematics, ecology and environmental biology. Students are enthusiastically supported in their quest for a career in any of several biological disciplines, the health-related fields, in teaching or in research. The four-year HBSc (Chemistry) program is at the core of the undergraduate offerings and provides the greatest flexibility in terms of post-graduate education, health-related studies and employment. The HBSc program also includes the opportunity to conduct a year-long original research project. The Department also offers a joint four-year Honours BSc (Biology and Chemistry) program and BSc (Biology and Chemistry) program.

Completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent high school diploma; Grade 12 U English, Grade 12 U Advanced Functions, Grade 12 U Chemistry, 1 Credit from: Grade 12 U Biology, Grade 12 U Physics, Grade 12 U Calculus & Vectors, or Grade 12 U Math of Data Management; and 2 Additional Grade 12 U or M Credits A minimum 70% overall final average is required for admission consideration

Test Scores:
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 550] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 80] or Michigan English Language Assessment Battery [min. 85] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Computer Based) [min. 213] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5]

Applicants whose first language is not English will need to satisfy Lakehead University’s English language proficiency requirements. Applicants can complete one of the following recognized language tests with the required minimum scores: TOEFL PBT-550, CBT-213, or iBT-80; IELTS-6.5; MELAB-85; CAEL-60.
