Description:

The PhD in Rehabilitation Science provides training to develop rehabilitation scientists who will advance rehabilitation research and transfer new knowledge into practice and policy. This competency-based program educates students in rehabilitation theory, research design and methods, grantsmanship, scientific writing, knowledge exchange and translation, and teaching/learning strategies. This program includes coursework, a comprehensive portfolio and a thesis. Graduates will be prepared to take on academic, leadership, or research roles.

    Applicants are required to have completed a Thesis-based MSc degree in rehabilitation or a related field with a minimum of a B+ average. Students who do not have a Thesis-based degree, such as entry-level professional degree at the Master's level (OT/PT or other health professional degree) or a Course-based MSc in a rehabilitation field, may be considered if they have a minimum B+ average at the Master's level, combined with evidence of research experience and scholarly writing.

    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 580] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Computer Based) [min. 237] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 100] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Michigan English Language Assessment Battery [min. 85]
    Application Notes : Applicants whose native language is not English will be required to submit an official copy of their TOEFL score, or other evidence of competency in English is required. A minimum TOEFL (iBT) score of 100 (580 on the paper-based TOEFL test or 237 on the computer-based TOEFL test) is needed for the Faculty of Health Sciences. Students taking the IELTS are required to achieve a minimum score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 5.5 in each category. Students taking the MELAB are required to achieve a minimum score of 85. Equivalent scores on other recognized tests may also be considered. Each of these scores are only valid for 2 years. Students who have completed an Academic ESL program through Canadian academic institutions may petition to have this considered in lieu of TOEFL. Applicants may be exempted from this requirement if they have completed a university degree at which English is the language of instruction. These test results need to be less than 2 years old.

    Applicants are required to submit two (2) academic references (applicants have the option of providing one (1) work-related reference in addition to two (2) academic references), an up-to-date curriculum vitae, a letter (maximum two (2) pages) outlining the proposed training plan (supervisor and research area), research interests and experience, and, long term career goals, and two (2) examples of scholarly writing.
