Description:

The Department of Physics & Astronomy at UBC is noted for the excellence of its research and its high academic standards and integrity. We are constantly rated as one of the top Physics & Astronomy programs in the world. Each year, we offer 20 to 30 graduate level Physics and Astronomy courses. We host a full range of presentations and seminars including many on current and emerging topics and technologies, and invite nationally and internationally renowned scientists to participate. We have weekly seminar series on Astronomy, Particle Physics, Condensed Matter, Biophysics, and Theoretical Physics. At our facilities at Vancouver General Hospital, TRIUMF, and AMPEL, seminars are held regularly for faculty and students.

    Applicants for a master's degree program must hold the academic equivalent of a four-year bachelor's degree from UBC including one of the following:



  • A minimum overall average in the B+ range (76% at UBC) in third- and fourth-year courses.

  • Academic standing with at least 12 credits of third- or fourth-year courses in the A grade range (80% or higher at UBC) in the field of study.

  • Test Scores:
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Computer Based) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 90] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Michigan English Language Assessment Battery
    Application Notes : Applicants whose degrees are from a university outside Canada in which English is not the primary language of instruction must present evidence of competency to pursue studies in the English language prior to being extended an offer of admission.

    All applicants must complete an online application form and pay the application fee to be considered for admission to UBC.

    All applicants have to submit transcripts from all past post-secondary study.
